There is No Peace in Kunar Valley

As a boy growing up in a remote valley near the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Nasirullah was fascinated by the US soldiers who came to fight the Taliban   in his village. He became an interpreter and worked with the US troops for more than six years. But, as the Taliban repeatedly threatened his family, he knew he needed to get out. Now in the US, he works with refugees coming to Oregon, but worries every day about his family, still trapped in Afghanistan.

On September 22nd, 2023, The Immigrant Story brought its acclaimed live storytelling event, The Immigrant Story Live, to the U.S. Bank Main Stage at Portland Center Stage.

This free event is made possible by a generous contribution from Zidell Family Foundation. Additional funds for programming have been provided by Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, and by a grant from the Oregon Community Foundation.
