Britany Cano-Briceno is a freshman at Portland Community College with the eventual goal of pursuing a degree in social work at Portland State University. Mindful of her immigrant parents, who hailed from Mexico in search of better opportunities for their children, Britany developed an interest in writing as her parents shared with her their daily struggles. She wants to be a voice to immigrants who are afraid to share their stories. She is inspired by her Mayan ancestry and finds deeper meaning in celebrating the festivals like the Day of the Dead honoring her ancestors. She also enjoys traveling back to her hometown, Mérida, Mexico, to immerse herself in her cultural lineage. In her spare time, Britany can be seen dancing to contemporary and hip hop music.
