Thao Nguyen:

Me with my niece. Her mother was my older sister pictured previously. My niece was three years old when I left Vietnam, and I   was heartbroken not knowing if we would see each other again.

My sister and me. She was three years old here, and I was six months. This was the only picture we took together.

My mother gave this necklace to me when I was 18 years old, before we left Vietnam from the United States in 1980. This was the best gift I ever received from her.

My mother, wearing a traditional Vietnamese dress. This picture was taken before 1970, while she was in her late thirties.
