Our Community, Our Stories OLD

We’re back! And this time, The Immigrant Story (TIS) will be joining the City of Beaverton during Beaverton Welcoming Week!

We invite you to join us for an event to show support to newcomers in our community and say “we all belong here.” Celebrating the spirit of Beaverton Welcoming Week, TIS we will be joined by the Beaverton Mayor Denny Doyle on September 21, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Beaverton City Hall (in the Beaverton Building).

This will be a special opportunity to hear two of our participants, Ivan and Wafa, share their stories in person, to ask them questions about their experiences as recent immigrants and to hear more about the work and mission of The Immigrant Story. Mayor Doyle will speak about Beaverton’s efforts around inclusion and the city’s collaboration with TIS to help make sure everyone in our community feels welcome.

Bring your family! We hope to see you there!

National Welcoming Week is an annual series of events designed to bring together immigrants, refugees and U.S.-born residents to raise awareness of the benefits of welcoming everyone. The week’s activities celebrate the contributions of newcomers and provide opportunities to build cross-cultural relationships and understanding.

The Immigrant Story is proud to be a platform for all underrepresented immigrant voices in our community. Our hope is that this project will provide an opportunity for visitors to explore the emotions of this particular community, which continues to bear the brunt of hate speech in the United States.

The Immigrant Story believes that by sharing our stories, we can enhance empathy and thereby contribute to the creation of a shared community and a greater humanity.

When you help us share these powerful stories, you help change the narrative in today’s America.

This event is sponsored by Pro Photo Supply and Rhino Digital Printing.  Ivan and Wafa’s portraits and stories will be on exhibit at Beaverton City Hall through the end of October.
