Marcelo is a cultural anthropologist with a master’s degree in applied anthropology and a certificate in archaeology. He is currently a Ph.D. student in the History of Science program at Oregon State University. An immigrant himself, he came to the U.S. from Brazil in 1991 and became an American citizen in 1994. His recent research examined how stories of Native Americans in Oregon have been ignored or told differently over time. He plans to examine the refugee resettlement in Oregon using the recorded oral history and the published stories by The Immigrant Story project. After graduation, he envisions a career in teaching and research at a university level. In his free time, Marcelo enjoys spending time with his two adult children, watching sports and writing fiction.
