Food Feeds our Souls

Born in Tehran, Iran in 1978, during the Iranian revolution, Sara came to Portland with her family in 1986. As young teenagers, she and her twin sister returned to Iran for a summer visit with their grandparents. But the Iranian government refused to let them leave and it was five years before they returned to join their parents at the family restaurant in downtown Portland. Then came the riots in the spring of 2020.

On September 22nd, 2023, The Immigrant Story brought its acclaimed live storytelling event, The Immigrant Story Live, to the U.S. Bank Main Stage at Portland Center Stage.

This free event is made possible by a generous contribution from Zidell Family Foundation. Additional funds for programming have been provided by Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation, National Endowment for the Arts, and by a grant from the Oregon Community Foundation.
