Angelica Alarcon Is a first-generation college student studying business at Portland Community College, where she also works as a teaching assistant for writing and reading. In 1998, her parents immigrated from Mexico to Portland, Oregon empty-handed, knowing their children would have greater educational opportunities and a fair chance at a better life. After witnessing firsthand the effects of prejudice and unfair judicial systems on her immediate family, Angelica is especially motivated to write about stories from her community to give them a voice that they don’t currently have. She is inspired to persist in her goals and plans to graduate with her Bachelor of Business Administration from Portland State University. In her free time, you can find her making conversation with people around her, for she believes everyone has a story to tell.
