“Banaike” is a style of music where rhythm transforms into ritual and everyone is invited to join in. It is played in the south of Madagascar to begin a party.Under the fiery Malagasy sunset, the sun-bathed earth vibrates with anticipation, the mbira (thumb piano) murmurs, creating a welcoming gathering. The rhythm of dance and chants, derived from age-old tales, permeates the air, offering merriment and freedom. No formal invitation is required, simply yield to the call and immerse yourself in the jubilant rhythm of the community.
A group of musicians, selected by Mimy Fiaindratovo Manavihare, known as Mimy, showcased their talent live on the stage of Jesuit High School in Beaverton during The Immigrant Story Live concert on September 10, 2022.
