Janet Tolopka was born in Hartford, CT and grew up in south Florida. She has a BA and MS in mathematics and a post-bacc degree in accounting. Janet is a retired CPA with over 30 years accounting experience. Her professional experience includes five years in public accounting auditing governmental entities and over seventeen years as a senior management analyst at Metro that included the financial administration of multimillion dollar solid waste contracts.
Janet’s experience in the nonprofit sector includes over ten years of experience as treasurer with three nonprofit organizations. She is committed to ensuring that nonprofit organizations she serves are financially sound and well-managed.
In her free time, Janet plays saxophone with several groups. She also enjoys tap dancing, word and number puzzles, and crocheting.
Janet has been with The Immigrant Story (TIS) since its inception. She is also a founding member of the board and serves as its treasurer. She helped obtain the organization’s status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and manages its financial accounting.
