To Bear Witness: Reconciliation

A survivor of the genocide in Rwanda when he was a teenager, Emmanuel Turanturanye has a theory about why he is alive: to tell rest of world what happened there. The killers who came to his home and murdered almost all of his family were their neighbors; some were even members of the church where his dad was the preacher.  In his quest to become a human being again after such loss, Emmanuel has learned to forgive and to love once more. He counts his wedding, attended by some of those same neighbors, as a healing reconciliation.

Reconciliation was produced by The Immigrant Story in collaboration with NW Documentary. This short docuseries is a part of “To Bear Witness: Extraordinary Lives,” a multimedia collection of stories. This short film was directed and edited by Luz Carasa.
